Sunday 17 June HKCC Sunday 2nd vs. Beckenham Horton Kirby were put into bat having lost the toss on a pitch favouring the bowlers. Early wickets fell as Horton Kirby slumped to 33-5 early in their innings. Once again, Horton Kirby consolidated and then built up a useful total following a 100 run partnership between Bob Lane (39) and excellent maiden 50 from P Gascoigne. Horton Kirby eventually succumbed to 168 all out. The Beckenham batting attack was adventurous in difficult conditions, when lesser teams would have batted conservatively for a draw. Initially restricted by the tight opening attack and superb ground fielding, Beckenham continued to play their shots, their response led by opener Murtleigh (81) who was sharply stumped by Clive Jones. The match had a thrilling end in the last over where HKCC needed one wicket and Beckenham 13 runs to claim victory. Neither achieved their target, and the match was drawn having been played in good spirit |
