CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MINI SUPER 8'S SIDE
2ND IN KENT in 2007!!
Horton Kirby Cricket Club's under 9's section has taken part in the Kent Cricket Board's
Mini Super 8's competition this summer and have had great success in doing so. We fielded
two sides in round one of the competition where we competed against Sevenoaks Vine and Otford,
two strong sides from the local area. Out of the 10 games HKCC A played, they won an impressive
9! HKCC B also played particularly well winning 3 of their 10 games - one of these notably against
the Sevenoaks Vine A team.
Out of the 6 teams in this round, sadly only 2 teams could go through. HKCC A progressed to the
final round as winners of their group.
The finals day took place at Gore Court CC in Sittingbourne, and was an
enjoyable day for all who took part and for all of the spectators. In the first round we played against two
of the strongest sides in Kent, Bexley and Hayes A. However, our youngsters didn't take notice of these tags and beat
both teams by considerable margins. As a result of this they ended up in the 1st group of 6 as they
were seeded 2 out of 24 teams at the finals day - only runners up to St Lawrence A.
In the second round of finals day, we played against Ashford and Bidborough, who were both seeded in
the top 6. Once again HKCC A beat both of the teams and therefore, progressed to the Grand Final of
the KCB Mini Super 8's tournament. This meant that whatever happened in this game, they were at least
2nd best in Kent. However, the children wanted to be first and showed great determination to try to beat St Lawrence,
a tough feat. Although they showed great will and played extremely well, they couldn't defeat the stronger side.
We as a club would like to thank all the parents who supported their children throughout the competition, the
children who took part in any of the rounds and the coaches who have worked hard throughout both the summer
and winter.
Congratulations to everyone involved!

Group 1 Under 9's ASDA Kwik Cricket Awards
|
Our Group 1 Under 9’s are involved in the ASDA sponsored Kwik Cricket Skills Award Scheme. There are Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. They test the children’s catching, throwing, bowling and striking skills in a simple way and they have been designed to fit Key stage 1 and 2 of the National Curriculum. A certificate will be awarded on completion of the skills tests and an optional sew on badge can be purchased. This is a very well organised scheme and we are happy for our younger juniors to have fun and achieve within the scheme. In the past few weeks, the children have been practising the skills required and they are doing very well. All the details will be on the notice board in the club house but, until the season begins, the Kwik cricket folder will be at training for you to look at. Assessments will take place at Summer training. |
